Reunion 2009, A Family Perspective April 10th, 2009
Our family had many invitations from several Blue Ghost members to attend this year’s reunion in Nashville. They assured us that we would be welcomed and we would have a great time. I have to admit that I thought long and hard about attending. My Mom and I discussed it. My husband and I discussed it. Is it the right thing to do…are we blurring the line between Ray’s life and ours, what should a family do? ... [Read More]

From the Blue Ghosts Association PresidentAs
the holiday season approaches, I think it always a good time to reflect
back, not only on the past year with all of the great freedoms our
country provides us, but also of the friendships we have forged over
the years. Most of
us “Blueghosters” began our friendships in the less than desirable
location of South Viet Nam, and knew each other for only as long as our
tours had us co-located, which could have been only a couple of... [Read More]
2007 Reunion Notes April 8th, 2007
2007 Reunion Notes:
We stayed at the Hotel Clarion in downtown Branson, MO., which proved to be a great place for our group as it was centrally located, and had everything we needed from a hotel. That is a great staff, good food, and a large hospitality suite. Dan and Donna Delor did a great job of selecting the hotel from all those in the running..
We had a large crowd this year, including several “new” members who we all were happy to see as well as a few members who have not... [Read More]

Fall 2004 to Jan 30th 2005 September 13th, 2006
We have had several guestbooks through the years. The first was free and hosted off site and worked great for the first couple years. They sold advertising space and our laptop was hijacked by a malicious script placed on their site. Luckily we had saved the web pages. The next 2 guestbooks got hit hard with spam or had too many security updates to keep track but we were able to save the data.
Due to the number of new members in the past few months, we feel it would be of great interest to... [Read More]

Some Thoughts on Reunions February 5th, 2006
I have to admit that I hated the Army. Being drafted less than a week after my daughter was born really racked my life. After cobra repair school, I remember standing in that small Indiana airport, Nam orders in hand, thinking; “What the hell am I doing here and what is the F*ing Army doing to me now?” I had no clue I was about to become a member of an elite organization that would change my life.
I’ve always been proud to be a Blue Ghost. I used “Blue Ghost” as my “CB handle” for... [Read More]

Here are some reunion notes from this year’s annual gathering. The Drawbridge Hotel was the official “hooch” this year, just across the river from Cincinnati, Ohio. About 50 people were able to attend this year, with the first lift arriving Thursday March 31st, other trickling in as they came to their senses, realizing this was the weekend that counts, and drove or flew in.
Tim Lafayette and Carl Smith, the volunteer coordinators and hosts, made a good selection with this... [Read More]

BlueGhosts was the callsign for F Troop 8th Cavalry. This was an air cav troop with roots all the way back to the horse cavalry in the 19th century. (Thank you Army for trading the horses for helicopters!) We worked in teams and were organized in separate platoons consisting of scouts, weapons, lift, infantry & headquarters. Scouts: This platoon flew OH-6 Cayuse helicopters (loach) at tree top level (or below) searching for signs of the enemy (intelligence gathering), doing bomb damage... [Read More]

Nashville Reunion 2004 August 7th, 2005
Several weeks ago, Dan and Donna DeLor asked me to write an article about the BlueGhost reunion in Nashville. My first reaction was, “Sure, no sweat; I’ll come up with something.” Well, several weeks have passed and I’ve had more than one rum and coke and the big inspiration has not happened.
